Xserve Cluster Setup

Darwin Cluster
- 100 Xserve G5 Cluster Nodes Dual 2.0 GHz with 1.5 GB RAM
- Interconnected via gigabit ethernet
- Managed using radmind (University of Michigan RSUG)


Objective
Utilize Apple's automatic setup via the Server Setup Assistant while also installing all of the most recent software updates and radmind. Accomplished by Automatic setup via Apple Server Assistant aided by a custom Startup Item. Simply boot the Xserve node from the firewire drive and wait approximately five minutes until it is ready for use. Then run radmind remotely to make any additional (minor) changes to the node.

The key is to update/install software on a node without running through the set-up assistant.


Requirements
DHCP server (only for setting up the original Xserve image)
Another client Macintosh with firewire
Firewire disk 400 or 800
